Palm Beach County is taking action to help people stay warm as temperatures plummet. A cold front is on its way, bringing overnight lows in the 40s near Lake Okeechobee. This has prompted the county to open a cold-weather shelter in Belle Glade. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for most of South Florida. Rain showers earlier in the day are expected to taper off as the cold front moves in. The shelter will be open from 7 p. m. on January 15th to 9 a. m. the next day. This is to provide a safe haven for those who need it during the coldest part of the night.
Temperatures are set to drop quickly. Areas away from the coast will be under a cold weather advisory from 3 a. m. to 9 a. m. on January 16th. Some places, like West Palm Beach, Jupiter, and Boca Raton, could see temperatures as low as the mid-30s. Another cold snap is expected late on January 18th. After that, temperatures should start to rise gradually. The weather will be drier starting January 16th, but more showers could come with the next cold front. It's important to note that hazardous conditions for marine and beach activities will continue into January 16th. These conditions might return with the next cold front. So, if you're planning to be out on the water or at the beach, be cautious.
