The Big Apple is in for a frosty welcome to 2024. A light dusting of snow is on the way, starting late on Wednesday night and lingering into the early hours of New Year's Day. Don't expect a big snowstorm, though. The National Weather Service says we're looking at less than an inch of accumulation. The snow is coming in ahead of a cold front that's moving into the area. It will start falling late Wednesday evening and should wrap up by early Thursday morning. Temperatures won't be too kind, either. They'll hover around 30 to 35 degrees, with wind gusts making it feel even colder.
New Year's Day will be downright chilly. The cold front will pass through early in the day, bringing even colder air. Winds will pick up, gusting up to 30 to 35 mph by the afternoon. Highs will only reach the low 30s, and overnight lows will drop into the low 20s. Wind chills could make it feel like it's in the single digits. The cold isn't going anywhere fast. It will stick around through the weekend. Friday will be just as cold as New Year's Day. Saturday will be dry but still chilly. Things might start to warm up a bit by Tuesday, after a warm front moves through on Monday night. This system could bring some light precipitation, but not much accumulation is expected. After nearly a week of below-normal temperatures, things should finally start to feel more normal by Tuesday. So, bundle up and stay warm, because this cold snap is here to stay for a while.
