Winter has made its presence known, and it's bringing snow to Central Maryland and York, PA. Expect around 1 to 3 inches of snowfall, with some areas potentially getting even more. The snow will start before midnight and should wrap up by sunrise. Beaches and Delmarva will see snow in the morning. The snowfall rates could reach 1 inch per hour in Northeast Maryland, Northern Delmarva, and metro Philadelphia. This could lead to higher snow totals than initially expected. After the snow, temperatures will drop, and wind chills will feel brutally cold from Sunday to Monday morning. The snowfall totals for Baltimore this season are still low. If BWI measures 1. 5 inches of snow, it will match the average for December. However, 2 inches or more will bring the station above average for the first time since December 2017. The snowstorm is being driven by a jet stream with winds over 130 mph. This will enhance atmospheric lift and support snow development. The snow will start in the mountains and then move to Central Maryland between 8 PM and 11 PM. After the snow, temperatures will be cold enough for the snow to stay around. Looking ahead, there will be a brief warm-up later in the week, with rain, wind, and maybe even a thunderstorm on Friday.
