Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, ChinaThu Oct 24 2024
Get ready for the next big chapter in China's space exploration story! The Shenzhou-19 crew is gearing up for their mission to the Tiangong space station. Their 203-foot-long (62 meters) Long March 2F rocket is already sitting on the launch pad at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. This isn't just any rocket; it's the one that will carry the Shenzhou 19 spacecraft into space. This transfer happened on October 22, but the actual launch date is still a secret. Don't worry, China's human spaceflight agency (CMSA) will let us know shortly.
The crew will embark on a six-month adventure in space, joining the Shenzhou 18 crew who are already there. Science activities are in full swing aboard the station. The current crew has been busy maintaining the combustion science laboratory cabinet and replacing samples in the fluid physics laboratory. They're just over a third of the way through their stay, and soon, they'll hand over the station to the new crew.
China plans to operate Tiangong for at least ten years, so expect more exciting missions ahead!
