Chip Leak Scandal Hits Samsung and China

Seoul, South KoreaWed Apr 22 2026
A former Samsung researcher was found guilty in Seoul for sharing secret chip designs with a Chinese company. The court said the information was core technology for the nation and that he worked with others to break the law. He is 56 years old and was one of ten people charged last year for similar leaks to ChangXin Memory Technologies, a firm that makes high‑bandwidth memory used in AI. The leaked data helped China improve its memory chips, which are essential for powerful computers.
Samsung said nothing about the case. ChangXin did not answer when asked for comments. Reports say the ex‑Samsung employee moved to ChangXin with a former Samsung colleague and received about 2. 9 billion won (roughly $1. 96 million) over six years for the information. The prosecutors’ office was not available to speak at the time of inquiry. ChangXin announced plans last year to raise 29. 5 billion yuan (about $4. 33 billion) by selling shares in Shanghai. The money will be used to upgrade its factories and technology.
