Chromecast with Google TV Gets Android 14 Update
Tue Jun 24 2025
Google has finally pushed out a new Android 14 update for the Chromecast with Google TV. This comes after some hiccups earlier in the year when the initial rollout was delayed and then pulled due to issues. The update is now available for both devices that already had the initial Android 14 patch and those still running Android 12.
The update brings several improvements. It upgrades the Android TV version from 12 to 14, adds support for Find My Remote and Customizable Button features on the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote, and includes security patches up to January 2025. Users have also reported fixes for issues like external drive storage problems and settings crashes in certain menus.
However, not everything is perfect. Some users are still experiencing problems with Ethernet adapters and USB debugging/ADB not working after the update. It's a step forward, but there's still room for improvement.
To get the update, go to Settings > System > About > System update on your Chromecast with Google TV. It's a straightforward process, but it's always good to back up your data just in case.
This update is a big deal for Chromecast users. It brings the device up to date with the latest Android version, which means better performance, improved security, and new features. It's a sign that Google is committed to supporting its streaming devices, even if the rollout wasn't perfect.
