Spring is in the air, and so are the events happening at local churches in the area. From potlucks to rummage sales, and from Filipino Mass to Greek cookbook sales, there's something for everyone. Let's take a closer look at some of these events and what they have to offer. First up, Faith United Methodist Church in Orland Park is hosting a "Pack the Pew" Sunday on April 21, where members are invited to bring a friend to church. The goal is to have at least 120 people in attendance, and to make it even more enjoyable, a Spring into Salads potluck will follow at 11:30 a. m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite salad to share, and drinks, tableware, and dessert will be provided. Crafts and games will be available for children, and Pastor Jacques Conway will share stories from his recent trip to Africa. This event is sponsored by the worship and fellowship committees. Meanwhile, in Burbank, St. Albert the Great Catholic Church is celebrating Filipino culture with a Mass on April 20 at 6:30 p. m. The Rev. Xamie Reyes will be the celebrant, and attendees are welcome to join in the celebration. Homer Glen's St. Bernard Parish is hosting Senior Happy Hours on April 17, where attendees can gather for lunch at 11:30 a. m. followed by 12 games of bingo. The cost for lunch is $5 per person, and attendees are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Oak Lawn's First United Methodist Church is hosting a Spring rummage sale on April 18 and 20, with bag sales available on the latter date. Proceeds will support community outreach programs. Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn is hosting a Limitless Youth game night and fundraiser on April 20, featuring baked goods and silent auction. Attendees are welcome to bring their own cards and games to play, and the event will benefit Feed My Starving Children, a service project the youth will participate in on May 4. Finally, Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Palos Hills is selling a new cookbook titled "Treasured Recipes and Memories," featuring over 500 recipes from church members. The cookbook will support charitable causes, and attendees can purchase a copy by emailing eroup@aol. com or calling 708-945-2561. What makes these events so special? They provide an opportunity for community members to come together, share in fellowship, and support important causes. They also offer a chance to try new foods, engage in fun activities, and make new friends. So mark your calendars, grab a friend, and join in on the fun at one of these upcoming church events.
