Windows 11 recently added some new widgets to the lock screen, and they might not be your favorite. You'll see weather, stock market updates, and sports news. Unfortunately, you can't pick and choose which ones stay; it's all or nothing. So, if you want a clean lock screen, you'll need to turn off the widgets altogether. Microsoft introduced this feature in May with an update (KB5035942 for Windows 11). It can be a bit tricky to find where to turn it off in the Settings menu. But don't worry, we’ll guide you through it.
For Windows 11 users, open the Settings app via the Start menu or by pressing Windows + I on your keyboard. Head over to Personalization, then select Lock screen from the sidebar. You'll see an option called "Lock screen Status" with a dropdown menu. By default, it says "Weather and more. " Change that to "None. " While you’re at it, uncheck the box for "Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen" for a tidier look. And if you're still using Windows 10, don’t think you’re off the hook! The process is similar. Go to Settings, then Personalization, and choose Lock screen. Look for "Choose one app to show detailed status on the lock screen" and change it from "Weather and more" to "None. " Now your lock screen will be nice and tidy without those unwanted widgets!
