Clergy Resilience: How Feeling Strong Helps Avoid Burnout

Wales, United KingdomMon Mar 30 2026
A small survey of 123 church leaders in Wales looked at how confident they feel about bouncing back from stress and whether that confidence protects them against getting burnt out. Researchers used a short questionnaire to gauge resilience, then checked the leaders’ energy levels and job satisfaction with another scale that measures work‑related burnout. After accounting for gender, age, personality traits like introversion and emotionality, the results showed that those who saw themselves as more resilient reported feeling less emotionally drained. They also felt more fulfilled in their ministry roles.
The study was limited by its small size and the fact that participants were chosen conveniently, so it isn’t a definitive proof. The authors suggest repeating the research with more people to confirm the link. If the finding holds up, it could mean that building resilience skills might help clergy stay mentally healthy and enjoy their work longer.
