COP29 brought together people from 200 countries, all hoping to make a difference on climate change. But the conference ended in gridlock, with the huge challenge of finding money to fight climate change looming large. Wealthy nations only pledged $250 billion by 2035, while poorer countries needed much more.
Many world leaders, including those from big polluters like the U. S. and China, skipped the conference. This didn't help create a sense of urgency, especially with the Taliban attending for the first time and the hot topic of Trump's climate stance. Some countries most affected by climate change, like Pacific Island nations, almost boycotted the conference because they felt unfairly treated.
Experts warned that time is running out, and we need new ways to tackle climate change. The cost of waiting is high, and some countries, like Afghanistan, already face severe climate threats. But with politics and disagreements taking center stage at COP29, real progress seemed far away.
