Coffee's Hidden Health Benefits: A Daily Cup May Be the Key to a Healthier Heart

ChinaTue Sep 17 2024
While many of us rely on our morning cup of coffee to get us going, new research suggests that moderate coffee consumption may be doing more than just waking us up. According to a recent study, drinking one to three cups of coffee a day may help protect against cardiometabolic multimorbidity, a condition characterized by the coexistence of at least two cardiometabolic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and high blood pressure. The study, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, analyzed data from over 360,000 people in the UK Biobank and found that moderate coffee consumption was associated with a reduced risk of developing cardiometabolic multimorbidity. Specifically, those who drank one to three cups of coffee a day had a 48. 1% lower risk of developing the condition compared to those who didn't drink or drank less than one cup. But what's behind coffee's potential health benefits? It's not just the caffeine, experts say. While caffeine may play a role, the antioxidants and other compounds present in coffee may also be contributing to its protective effects.
