Coffee's Journey: Boosting Jordan's Supply Chain Efficiency

Coffee is a beloved beverage enjoyed globally. However, the coffee bean industry is grappling with several hurdles. These include lingering impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, unpredictable weather in key growing regions, fluctuating prices, and rising transportation expenses. Jordan, heavily dependent on imported coffee, faces unique challenges in maintaining a steady supply. The goal is to assess and enhance Jordan's coffee supply chain. This involves cutting down on delivery times and reducing shipping costs. To achieve this, a two-step approach is proposed. First, a method called Fuzzy MCDM is used. This combines Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Fuzzy TOPSIS to evaluate and rank suppliers based on specific criteria. This step ensures that the best suppliers are selected, considering various factors. Next, a simulation technique known as Discrete Event Simulation (DES) is applied. This helps in improving the overall efficiency of Jordan's coffee supply chain. Real-world company data is used to test and validate this approach. The decision-making process involves input from decision-makers and experts, ensuring a well-rounded evaluation of suppliers. Several scenarios are analyzed and compared. The results pinpoint the most and least favorable suppliers, with Ethiopia standing out in multiple indicators. The findings suggest that reducing lead time and shipping costs, investing in technology, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement can significantly boost efficiency and adaptability. This analysis provides a detailed look at the current state of Jordan's coffee supply chain. It also offers potential avenues for growth and improvement. Recommendations are made to enhance the existing supply chain and guide future research efforts. By addressing these challenges, Jordan can work towards a more stable and efficient coffee supply chain.
