Cold Front Pushes Chilly Weather into Capital Region Temporarily
Baton Rouge, USAFri Dec 13 2024
A cold front that ended yesterday's rainfall is bringing cooler and drier air to the region today. This chill won't stick around very long, as warmer temperatures and rain chances are expected by the weekend.
Today and tonight, some clouds might be around at sunrise, but windy conditions from the northwest will soon clear the skies and bring full sunshine for the rest of the day. Expect the day to start much cooler than recent days, with temperatures in the low to mid 40s around the Capital Area. With the sun shining, afternoon highs will only reach the upper 50s, feeling cooler due to the breeze. Overnight, clear skies will continue and the winds will ease, allowing temperatures to drop back into frost territory. Baton Rouge could hit a low of near 36°F early Thursday.
As we move into Thursday, a gradual warming trend will kick in. Thursday will stay cool with highs in the low 60s and mainly sunny skies. By Friday, rain chances will return as moisture enters the atmosphere ahead of a warm front heading towards the Gulf Coast. This will bring partly cloudy weekends with cool mornings in the 50s and mild afternoons in the low 70s. The best chance for rain will be on Saturday, with isolated storms moving through southeast Louisiana. The mostly cloudy skies and warmer-than-usual temperatures are expected to last into the new workweek until the next cold front arrives. Forecasts suggest this front could pass late Monday or early Tuesday, bringing warm conditions and dry periods before organized rain comes through as the front arrives later Monday. If the front’s timing changes, so will the wetter parts of the forecast.
