Colombia and the US: Teaming Up Against Crime

Colombia, BogotáWed Jul 02 2025
Colombia and the United States have been friends for a long time. They have worked together on big problems. One of the biggest is fighting crime that crosses borders. Both countries have different leaders now. But they still agree on one thing: stopping criminals is important. These criminals are part of groups that hurt people and cause trouble. One group is called Tren de Aragua. It does bad things in many countries. Colombia found out about this group first. Then, they helped catch the leaders. This is just one example of how Colombia and the US work together. Colombia has also trained many police and soldiers. They help keep other countries safe too. This is a big deal because crime doesn't stay in one place. Fighting drugs is another big job. Colombia and the US have learned some lessons. They found that forcing farmers to stop growing coca (a plant used to make cocaine) doesn't work well. Instead, they help farmers grow other things. This way, they can make money legally. But it's not just about the plants. It's also about stopping the people who sell drugs. Colombia has seized a lot of cocaine. This means less drugs on the streets and less money for criminals. Both countries have leaders who want to stop crime. One is President Petro of Colombia. The other is President Trump of the US. They might be different, but they agree on this: crime is bad and needs to be stopped. The US has helped Colombia with training and support. In return, Colombia helps keep the US safe. This teamwork is important. It makes both countries stronger.
