Colorado Faces Fire Risk While Snowheads Return

Colorado, USASun Apr 12 2026
A handful of counties in Colorado are under red flag warnings because the weather is hot, dry and windy. The Front Range, Eastern Plains and southern regions are the most affected. Wind speeds may hit 35 miles per hour and humidity can drop to just seven percent, creating a perfect storm for fires. Fire danger is expected to stay high into Monday as the heat and wind continue. Some counties already have watches that could become new warnings if conditions worsen.
Tuesday brings a change in the weather pattern. Rain chances rise over Denver, while snowfall is likely in the mountains. Wednesday and Thursday will see a return to dry, windy conditions. However, by Friday and Saturday snow is possible again in the mountains and around Denver. The National Weather Service urges residents to stay alert and prepare for both fire risk and changing winter weather.
