Colors That Fly Over Denver
Denver, CO, USASat Jun 20 2026
Denver’s downtown will soon be filled with bright, moving sculptures that float above the city’s streets.
The project is called “Skynets Over Downtown” and was created by the kinetic art company Poetic Kinetics together with Colorado artist Patrick Shearn.
The pieces react to the wind, so they shift and sway in real time, giving visitors a constantly changing visual show.
The first sculpture, named “Sun Splash, ” will appear above the fountain at Union Station on June 19 and stay until early July.
A second piece, “Quaking Gold, ” will rise over Glenarm Plaza on June 25 when the street is closed for a day.
The final installation, “Skyline Drift, ” will be finished by mid‑July at Skyline Park on 17th Street.
The city’s Department of Transportation and Denver Arts & Venues lead the effort, working with several other agencies.
The total cost for the project is $625, 000, paid to Poetic Kinetics.
Local officials expect the artworks to attract both residents and tourists, turning downtown into a must‑visit spot.
Last summer, Shearn’s work in Green Mountain Falls drew over 100, 000 people and lifted sales‑tax revenue by more than a third.
That experience helped the city decide to bring similar kinetic art into Denver.
The new installations will remain on display until October, with special events planned throughout the summer.
