Columbia Highway Segment Shuts Down for Bridge Work This Week

Columbia, Missouri, USAWed Nov 04 2026

The city of Columbia is preparing for a nightly shutdown of a key highway stretch. Workers will be taking down an overpass that sits above the road near a major exit. The project will affect traffic flow for several days.

Each night, the work will start at 7 p.m. and run until 6 a.m. The schedule continues through Thursday, covering the full week. The closure period includes the entire span of the bridge removal.

Drivers will find the underpass beneath Interstate 70 blocked. The on‑ramp linking westbound I‑6‑0 to the loop will be only partially open. People traveling south of I‑6‑0 on the loop and those trying to enter the highway from Range Line Street will face limited access.

The Missouri Department of Transportation issued the notice to keep commuters informed. Officials urge anyone with a trip planned to consider alternate routes. The work is expected to finish by the end of the week, restoring normal traffic flow.
