Companies Ranked by What Americans Call “Just”
United States, USATue Mar 17 2026
Every year, a group of researchers gathers the voices of about 200, 000 people across the United States. They ask these citizens what they think makes a business fair and responsible, and then use those answers to rank large companies.
For the 2026 list, the team looked at 17 key themes and collected data from 85 general indicators plus 36 sector‑specific ones. They also considered opinions from five groups: workers, local communities, shareholders and governance bodies, customers, and environmental advocates.
Boardrooms today face more uncertainty than ever. Global politics, rising prices, and new technologies like artificial intelligence create a volatile backdrop. Meanwhile, corporate discussions about environmental, social, and governance matters have become more intense.
Even as companies feel pressure to keep profits high and stay out of political debates, many still prioritize “just” investments. However, the focus is shifting toward projects that promise long‑term benefits for everyone involved—investors, employees, and the neighborhoods they serve.
In short, this ranking shows how public opinion can shape corporate priorities and highlight the growing importance of fairness in business practices.
