Cost‑Effective Switch to Ixazomib Beats Daratumumab for Myeloma in China

ChinaThu Oct 15 2026

Chinese health officials compared two drug combos for patients who cannot receive a stem cell transplant. One regimen uses ixazomib plus lenalidomide and dexamethasone. The other uses daratumumab with the same two drugs. The goal was to see which option gives more health benefit for the money spent.

In the main analysis the ixazomib regimen added about 0.58 extra quality‑adjusted life years. That means patients lived longer in good health compared with the daratumumab regimen. At the same time the ixazomib plan saved roughly 7,751 dollars in lifetime medical costs.

When the model was tested for uncertainty the biggest drivers were how often patients stop treatment and how fast the disease progresses after that. Probabilistic checks showed a 79 percent chance the ixazomib plan is cost‑effective at a willingness‑to‑pay equal to one times China’s 2025 GDP per capita per quality‑adjusted life year. The chance rises to 88 percent at two times and 91 percent at three times that threshold.

Researchers say the findings suggest the ixazomib switch could be a smart choice for the Chinese system. They also stress that more real‑world studies are needed to confirm these projections.
