Cough drops pulled from stores over safety concerns
USAFri Apr 17 2026
A wide range of cough drops sold under different brand names has been suddenly pulled from shelves after health officials found problems at a factory in China. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration spotted issues during a routine inspection back in August 2025, but hasn’t explained exactly what went wrong. The recall covers 15 different products, mostly menthol-based throat drops in flavors like honey lemon, cherry, and vanilla honey, packed in bags of 25, 30, 80, or even 90 pieces.
Most of the affected batches share the same expiration date of October 30, 2026, though some have earlier deadlines. The FDA classifies this as a Class II recall, meaning the risk to health is low but not zero—products in this category might cause short-term problems that don’t leave permanent damage. So far, no one has reported getting sick from these cough drops, but the agency still urges caution.
Shoppers who recently bought these brands should double-check the tiny lot numbers printed on the packages. If the code matches one listed in the recall, it’s safest to return the item or throw it away. The FDA warns against stopping medication without checking first, because in some cases, going without the cough drops could do more harm than using a recalled version.
