Cranford's Green Push: 85 New Trees to Boost the Town's Canopy

Cranford, NJ, USATue Nov 18 2025
Cranford is making a big move to keep its "Tree City USA" title. This week, the town is adding 85 new trees to its streets and parks. The Shade Tree Commission, a group of volunteers, is leading this effort. The Commission has nine members who vote on tree-related decisions. They make sure trees are planted and cared for properly. This is not their first time doing this. In the last two years, they have planted over 300 trees. They even have a plan to remove old tree stumps. The town is spending money to make sure the trees are healthy. They want to keep Cranford green and beautiful. The "Tree City USA" title is given by the Arbor Day Foundation. To get this title, a town must have a tree board, spend money on trees, and celebrate Arbor Day. Cranford got this title last year. They planted 111 trees and started a tree nursery. This year, they are on track to plant even more. So far, they have planted 125 trees. The new 85 trees will add to this number. The Commission is serious about their work. They make sure only their designated tree crew works on township trees. Residents cannot hire outside help for this. If you have questions, you can contact the Shade Tree Superintendent.
