Oslo, NorwayFri Mar 13 2026
Sky has secured the rights to Cary Joji Fukunaga’s upcoming crime drama “Blood on Snow, ” a story drawn from Jo Nesbø’s best‑selling novel. The film will debut as a Sky Original in the United Kingdom, with plans for a 2027 cinema release. The project brings together a star‑studded ensemble that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Aaron Taylor‑Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird and Ben Mendelsohn. Their performances are expected to elevate the gritty tale of Oslo’s underworld. In the plot, Aaron Taylor‑Johnson plays Olav, a seasoned hitman who operates with precision and a surprisingly firm moral compass. When his boss orders the murder of his own wife, Olav refuses and turns the tables on his handler, setting up a tense confrontation that pulls him deeper into gang conflict.
Sky’s decision follows the success of its previous acquisition, “The Hanging Sun, ” another adaptation of a Nesbø book. The network is positioning itself as a hub for high‑quality original thrillers. Director Fukunaga, known for films such as “No Time To Die” and the series “True Detective, ” is joined by screenwriter Ben Power, who adapted Nesbø’s story for the screen. Their collaboration promises a blend of sharp dialogue and atmospheric tension. Production is overseen by Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer of Department M, with executive producers including Hardy Son & Baker’s Tallulah Fairfax and others. Their combined experience hints at a polished final product. Sky’s head of original film, Andrew Orr, expressed excitement about the partnership with Fukunaga and highlighted the strength of Nesbø’s narrative and the cast’s talent as key reasons for the project’s appeal.
