Crypto Critic Molly White Receives Bribe Offer to Remove Blog Post

Sat Oct 26 2024
Molly White, a software engineer and well-known critic of the crypto industry, runs a website called Web3 Is Going Just Great. She recently wrote about the arrest of Roman Ziemian, the founder of crypto trading platform FutureNet. This platform is accused of defrauding people out of $21 million. White's website often exposes frauds, hacks, and scams in the crypto world. Last week, White received a surprising message. Someone claiming to run a reputation management company asked her to remove a blog post about FutureNet and Ziemian. This person offered her $200 to delete the post. White refused, saying the post was accurate. The person then increased the offer to $500. A few days later, White got an email from a lawyer named Michael Woods. Woods claimed White's post infringed on copyright. He offered her $100 to remove the post. White again refused, stating that false DMCA claims can result in penalties. TechCrunch couldn't verify Woods' identity. The address in his email was fake, and no lawyer named Michael Woods is registered in Los Angeles. TechCrunch reached out to FutureNet for comment but didn't get a response. White told TechCrunch she won't remove posts just because people don't like what she writes. She said, "If I did that, there wouldn't be much left on my website. "
