Crypto Voters Divided: Harris vs. Trump in 2024
USASun Oct 06 2024
Did you know that American crypto owners are split right down the middle when it comes to choosing between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump for the next presidential election? A recent poll by Coinbase shows that 47% of crypto enthusiasts plan to vote for Harris, while another 47% favor Trump. This is a big change from just a few years ago when both major parties were wary of cryptocurrency.
The U. S. now has 52 million crypto owners—that's seven times more than the vote difference in the 2020 election! And guess what? Many of these crypto owners live in crucial swing states. In fact, there are around 6. 5 million crypto owners in the seven battleground states alone, which is 16 times the vote difference in those states during the last presidential election.
So why do people own cryptocurrency? According to the poll, about 76% of American crypto owners say it gives them a sense of freedom, and nearly 87% think our current financial system needs an update. Plus, 74% want Congress to make clearer laws for crypto.
You might be surprised to learn that crypto owners are more diverse than the general population. Over half (68%) are either Gen Z or millennials, 48% identify as non-White, and 70% earn less than $100,000 a year. And they're not all Republicans—they're just as likely to vote for Harris as they are Trump.
