Cyprus has just joined the Artemis Accords, a space exploration agreement led by NASA. This makes Cyprus the 46th country to sign up for safe space exploration. Nicodemos Damianou, Cyprus' deputy minister of research, innovation, and digital policy, signed the accords in Nicosia. James O'Brien, from the U. S. State Department, was also there.
The Artemis Accords are about ensuring space exploration is peaceful and responsible. They are based on a treaty from 1967 and are part of NASA's Artemis campaign to land diverse astronauts on the moon.
NASA is happy with Cyprus' commitment. They say it will strengthen Cyprus' ties with NASA and the global space community. This is all about exploring space in an open, responsible, and peaceful way.
This news comes soon after many countries gathered to talk about the accords. It also comes just before Chile is set to sign up, making them the 47th country.
