The mayor of Washington, D. C. , has changed her tone about President Trump's decision to take control of the city's police. At first, she was very upset and called it an "intrusion" on the city's independence. She even urged people to vote for Democrats to stop what she saw as an "authoritarian push. " But later, she sounded less angry. She just said the move was "unprecedented" and not totally unexpected. She also talked about crime in the city, especially involving young people. She asked parents to keep an eye on their kids, saying that some of them are causing trouble but aren't necessarily criminals. The White House, however, had a different view. They said Trump stepped in because the city's leaders had failed to control crime and homelessness. They claimed that over 100 dangerous people had been taken off the streets since Trump got involved. The mayor's office pointed to crime statistics showing a decrease in violent crime. But the White House disputed these numbers, saying they might have been manipulated. The mayor said only one police commander was being investigated for this. Juvenile crime has been a big issue lately. There have been incidents where groups of teens caused trouble in the city. In one case, about 100 teenagers terrorized a neighborhood near a baseball park.
