Dalai Lama Plans Knee Care in New Delhi

The 90‑year‑old spiritual leader will head to India’s capital this month for a procedure on his left knee, according to his office. The trip is set for Friday as he leaves his exile home in Dharamshala, a Himalayan town. Followers usually hold special prayers before any medical step. The office also announced that the Lama will travel to Ladakh by June’s end for a longer visit. Earlier in 2024 he had surgery on the same knee in New York, which he later described as “nothing serious, ” yet he still needed aides to walk and now relies on a golf cart for longer distances around his compound.He has expressed optimism about living well past 130 years and assured his supporters that he will return in a new incarnation. Since fleeing Tibet after the 1959 uprising, he has lived in Dharamshala and is viewed by China as a separatist. Beijing insists it must approve his successor, but the Lama urges followers to reject any candidate chosen by China.
