Dallas Cowboys Face Harsh Criticism After Big Loss
Dallas, Arlington, USATue Oct 15 2024
The Dallas Cowboys are having a tough time recently. After a heavy loss at home to the Detroit Lions, 47-9, a former Cowboys coach didn't hold back. On Sunday night's broadcast, Devin McCourty and ex-Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett critically analyzed the team's performance on NBC's "Football Night in America. "
Garrett, who coached the Cowboys for nearly a decade, pointed out that the team seemed weak on both offense and defense. "They're not tough right now," he stated, noting that the team can't stop the run or control the line of scrimmage. He also mentioned that quarterback Dak Prescott is bearing too much responsibility with each snap.
McCourty echoed Garrett's sentiments, saying the defense looked "soft" and that Lions running back David Montgomery was easily running over them. The harsh comments come after the Cowboys suffered their worst home loss in over 30 years, on owner Jerry Jones' 82nd birthday no less.
Despite the criticism, Jones insisted that head coach Mike McCarthy's job is not on the line. "Do you think I'm an idiot? " Jones responded when asked about the possibility of a coaching change.
The Lions seemed intent on making a statement, running trick plays and throwing passes long after the game was decided. This could be a carryover from last year's controversial game where a scoring play was called back due to an error.
