Dance in 2024: Raw Emotions and New Faces

This year's dance performances were all about authenticity and fearlessness. Mira Nadon from New York City Ballet and Chloe Misseldine from American Ballet Theater were standouts for their sheer courage on stage. Veterans like Twyla Tharp, Ralph Lemon, and Bill T. Jones showed us the power of dance to express deep emotions. One powerful moment was Okwui Okpokwasili's heart-wrenching performance in Ralph Lemon's "Tell it anyway" at MoMA PS1. This performance, set to a vibrant score by Kevin Beasley, was a perfect example of how dance can be a cathartic experience. It was a year that highlighted the importance of dance that takes itself seriously.
A new generation of dancers also made their mark. Their imagination and commitment were on full display. Dance, with its raw and complex performances, is a mirror to the world. Even in tough times, it's a place where you can't just rest; you have to keep going, as Twyla Tharp put it, "You dig in, you dig down, you settle in and you don’t stop. "
