In the evening of a recent Saturday, a tragic event unfolded at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, China. A man, identified as Wu, went on a stabbing spree, leaving eight people dead and 17 injured. Police reports reveal that Wu's frustration with his academic and job situations led him to this violent act. Videos of the aftermath circulated on Western social media, showing injured individuals and bystanders rushing to help. However, Chinese platforms like Weibo only displayed the police statement, with no images or videos due to the country's strict internet censorship.
This incident comes on the heels of another deadly attack in Zhuhai, where a car was driven into a sports facility, killing and injuring many. China has witnessed several similar attacks, with suspects targeting the public seemingly at random. In October, a man allegedly attacked children at a Beijing school, and in September, a knife attack in a Shanghai supermarket left three dead and 15 injured. These events raise questions about mental health support and the underlying causes of such violent acts.
