Since January, the new Congress will have Republicans in charge of the White House, Senate, and House. Democrats need to ask themselves: Why are we in this position? The truth is, Democrats have lost trust with poor and working people for over a decade. Winning elections isn't enough if we can't keep that trust. Voters are upset because wages haven't gone up much in 50 years, even as productivity did. The rich are getting richer, and big companies are making record profits. Too many people can't pay for medical emergencies or afford housing. Things like groceries and diapers cost a lot more.
In Washington, they haven't done much about raising the minimum wage or protecting jobs. Many voters are independent now because they feel neither party is helping them. Some even stayed home or voted for someone they thought would shake things up. Rep. Pramila Jayapal says Democrats need to fix this. They have to show people they care and have a real plan to help. That means not just talking, but doing something about it. It won't happen overnight, but with bold moves, Democrats can rebuild that trust.
