A Denver sports bar, El Mecca, is in hot water. The city might take away its license because of suspected prostitution. This all started when the Denver Police Department got a tip about some shady stuff happening there. They looked into it and found some concerning things.
Back in October 2024, police got a tip about possible prostitution, illegal liquor sales, and drug dealing at the bar. They sent an undercover officer to check it out. The officer saw young women working for the bar, offering special services to male customers. These women would leave with customers and come back later, getting paid by the bar manager. It sounds like a pretty messed-up situation.
The police also found out about a scheme where women at the bar would charge $20 for a beer and their company. That's way more than a regular beer costs. The undercover officer also heard about another scam where women resell liquor to customers inside the bar. One woman even offered $500 for sex and was later arrested. She said she worked at the bar but claimed the owners didn't know about the prostitution.
The bar's manager, Manuel Mercado Ibarra, hasn't responded to any requests for comment. The city has ordered a hearing to decide if the bar can keep its license. If the bar is found guilty, it could lose its license for good. This is a big deal because it shows how important it is for businesses to follow the rules and operate honestly.
