Denver is in for a weather shift this weekend, with a drop in temperatures and a light dusting of snow. The change starts late Friday and sticks around through the weekend.
First, it's going to be warm on Friday. The high will be around 62 degrees. But don't get used to it. Things are about to change. By Friday night, temperatures will drop to around 21 degrees. That's a big swing!
Rain is expected to start before 11 p. m. on Friday. It might switch to snow between 11 p. m. and 2 a. m. Saturday. Then, after 2 a. m. , snow is likely. But don't expect a lot. We're talking a trace to about an inch.
Saturday isn't looking much better. There's a 50% chance of snow, mainly before 8 a. m. It will be mostly sunny, but the high will only be around 32 degrees. Winds will blow at six to 10 mph, with gusts up to 16 mph. Less than a half-inch of new snow is expected.
Temperatures will drop again on Saturday night, reaching a low of 14 degrees. Sunday isn't much better. There's a 20% chance of snow after 11 a. m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 30 degrees.
Sunday night brings a 40% chance of snow, mainly before 11 p. m. Temperatures will drop to a low of 15 degrees.
The mountains are expected to get snow and blowing snow Friday evening through early Saturday morning. Officials advise that the safest time to travel on Friday is during daylight hours. Or, you can wait until late Saturday morning. There's also a second round of mountain snow expected on Sunday.
So, bundle up if you're heading out this weekend. It's going to be cold and a bit snowy.
