Dino-Mania: Jurassic World Rebirth Stomps Box Office

North America, USASat Jul 05 2025
The latest dinosaur adventure, Jurassic World Rebirth, has taken the box office by storm. Despite mixed reviews, the film has roared to a massive global opening of over $300 million. This is a big deal because the Fourth of July weekend usually sees a drop in movie attendance due to holiday plans. But the power of the Jurassic brand and the thrill of seeing dinosaurs on the big screen have proven too strong to resist. The film's domestic opening is estimated at $141. 2 million over five days, with $85. 4 million coming from the three-day weekend. This makes it the fifth-best Fourth of July opening ever and the fourth-biggest domestic opening of 2025 so far. Overseas, the film has also performed exceptionally well, with an estimated $171. 3 million opening. This brings the global total to $312. 5 million, the second-best opening of the year behind A Minecraft Movie. Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh installment in the franchise, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, among others. It follows an extraction team racing to a research facility on an island from the original Jurassic Park, now inhabited by the most dangerous creatures left behind. The film's success is even more impressive considering it cost less to produce than its predecessors, at $180 million before marketing. The first three Jurassic World films all grossed over $1 billion globally, but each had higher domestic openings than Rebirth. However, the latest film's strong performance shows that the Jurassic franchise still has a lot of life left in it. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie is also making waves at the box office. In its second weekend, the film has crossed the $100 million mark domestically and has already cleared $200 million globally. Other films expected to round out the top five domestically include How to Train Your Dragon, Elio, and 28 Years Later.
