Mon Dec 02 2024
Andre Drummond, known as the ‘Big Cat’, has become a top back-to-the-basket big man. He's played for six different NBA teams, showcasing his skills. But it wasn't always like that. As a kid, Drummond struggled on the court. He was uncoordinated and often fell over. His teammates’ parents even asked the coach not to put him in games. Despite this, Drummond loved basketball. He started working hard and improved. Drummond was born in Mount Vernon, New York, to Jamaican parents. When he was seven, he moved to Middletown, Connecticut. There, he began his basketball journey. He attended Woodrow Wilson Middle School and later transferred to Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford. Drummond holds American nationality and has Jamaican roots. His mother, Christine Cameron, was a big influence on his career. She even chose his college for him – the University of Connecticut. She wanted him to stay close so the family could support him. Drummond's faith in Christianity has been a constant in his life. He once replied to a fan, “My faith in Christ” when asked about his improvement since his rookie year. After a big game, he thanked God for the opportunity.
