Dolan’s $3M Boost for Blakeman Before Hochul Debate
The Knicks owner’s political action committee poured $3 million into a GOP effort just before a heated debate. The cash arrived hours before Republican Bruce Blakeman faced Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul. The timing suggests an attempt to sway voters at a crucial moment.
Filings show three separate $1 million deposits into Strong and Safe New York Inc. Two of those transfers came from MSG Sports, the team’s parent company, and the third from Sphere Entertainment Group, another Dolan‑run entity. The paperwork was filed with the state Board of Elections, confirming the flow of money.
Dolan has become Blakeman’s most prominent business ally. He stepped in because many corporate leaders have stayed on the sidelines this election cycle. In past years, Ronald Lauder, a cosmetics heir, backed Republicans, but he has not contributed this time. Dolan also called out the Partnership for the City of New York for not endorsing Blakeman or a pro‑growth, lower‑tax agenda.
Not all members of that business group agree. Some of its leaders are backing Hochul’s re‑election bid. The split highlights a broader debate over how businesses should engage in state politics.
