Downtown LA’s Brewery Farewell
Los Angeles, CA, USA,Mon Apr 27 2026
The beloved Angel City Brewery in downtown Los Angeles closed its doors on Sunday after 13 years in the art district and almost thirty years across the city. The final event marked the end of an era for a place known for its glowing neon sign and historic roots in Culver City and Torrance. Its parent company, Alchemy & Science, decided to wind down the venture last year, and Boston Beer Company – the owner of Alchemy & Science – chose to focus on its national brands. Executives said they believed the Angel City name could thrive elsewhere, so they are actively seeking buyers to keep the brand alive.
The closure follows a pattern of nightlife spots shutting down in LA, driven by high operating costs, homelessness, and crime. The owner of Clifton’s Republic recently announced he would not reopen the nightclub after several attempts post‑pandemic, citing vandalism and a drop in visitors. A popular bar on Santa Monica’s corner, the Misfit Bar & Restaurant, also closed after fifteen years due to a wave of empty storefronts.
Fans and patrons shared their sadness online, with one former employee reportedly trying to rescue the business. The city’s challenges continue to test local venues, raising questions about how communities can support unique cultural spots in a tough economic climate.
