Dr. Ben Carson's New Cabinet Aspirations

Concord Convention Center, NC, USATue Nov 12 2024
Dr. Ben Carson, a well-known neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate, has his eyes set on a new role in President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet. According to insiders, Carson is vying for the position of Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary, a significant shift from his previous role as secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Carson, who served in the HUD position from 2017 to 2021, is no longer interested in returning to that role. Instead, his team is actively pushing for him to lead the HHS. This development comes as Carson has been actively campaigning for Trump, appearing alongside him during key events such as the Republican National Convention and the election night rally in West Palm Beach, Florida. The transition team for the 45th president has yet to finalize their decision on who will take the top spot at HHS. While deliberations continue at Mar-a-Lago, Carson's team is advocating strongly for his candidacy. Another potential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , is more likely to be involved in a health-related role focused on data, but he is unlikely to be named to the cabinet due to his controversial views on vaccines. Carson has been vocal about his stance on transgender issues since leaving the Trump administration. In 2022, he expressed his opposition to sex change surgeries for minors, stating that he would refuse to perform such procedures. His views align with those of former President Trump, who has also spoken out against these surgeries, referring to them as "child abuse. " Currently, Carson is leading the American Cornerstone Institute, a conservative think tank that aims to educate Americans about the federal government. The Trump team did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
