There's a new twist in the world of rap music, and it's happening in the courtroom. Drake has sued Universal Music Group (UMG) for defamation, claiming they spread a false narrative about him through a Kendrick Lamar song. UMG, shocked by these accusations, fired back saying they have always supported Drake's career and never intended to harm his reputation. They call the lawsuit illogical, given that they have invested heavily in Drake's success. The song in question, "Not Like Us, " is part of a long history of rap battles. Drake has often used his music to express his feelings about other artists. But this time, he feels the line has been crossed. He believes UMG knew the lyrics were false and dangerous and still chose to promote it. Interestingly, UMG distributes both Drake and Lamar’s music. The lawsuit argues that UMG is trying to devalue Drake's music and profile as their contract winds down. Drake initially sued UMG and Spotify, accusing them of manipulating streaming numbers, but later dropped those claims. UMG stands firm, stating they have never engaged in defamation and will defend their reputation in court.
