Drake's Legal Battle: Pedophile Accusations and Universal's Role
Toronto, CanadaWed Jan 15 2025
Drake has taken legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) for defamation and harassment. The lawsuit stems from Kendrick Lamar's diss track, "Not Like Us, " which Drake claims spreads false allegations that he is a pedophile. The lawsuit states that UMG knew the lyrics and music video were false and dangerous but chose to profit from them. The song was a massive hit in 2024, topping charts and garnering Grammy nominations. The lawsuit alleges that UMG is trying to devalue Drake's music and profile to gain better terms in a renegotiation. Interestingly, UMG distributes both Drake's and Lamar's music. A shooting incident at Drake's home, marked with sex offender indicators, occurred after the song's release, leading to a temporary pause in the rappers' feud. Drake attempted to address his concerns privately with UMG before filing the lawsuit. UMG has denied the accusations, stating that fans choose the music they want to hear. The lawsuit emphasizes that Drake has never been involved in any criminal acts.
