Dress Up Digitally: Google's Doppl App and Its Virtual Fitting Room
USAFri Jun 27 2025
Ever thought about seeing yourself in a new outfit before buying it? Google's Doppl app is here to make that happen. It's like having a digital fitting room right on your phone. You snap a full-body pic of yourself in good light and a simple stance, then upload a screenshot of the outfit you're curious about. The app's AI then creates a virtual image of you wearing that outfit. You can even add some fun animations to make it more lively.
But there are some hiccups. The app isn't great with pants, especially shorts. It might give you the wrong bottoms or make your shirt look too long. Sometimes, it even skips the pants altogether and generates fake feet. It's a bit glitchy, but it's trying its best.
There are some rules too. The app won't let you upload pictures of revealing outfits or public figures. It's probably for the best, but it can be a bit frustrating if you're just trying to have some fun.
Another thing to note is that the app tends to make people look thinner, like bobblehead figures. This only happens with mirror selfies, though. Regular photos seem to work just fine.
Google has dabbled in virtual try-ons before, but Doppl is a significant upgrade. It lets you try on clothes from different sources and even turn it into a video. If Google can iron out some of these issues, it could be a game-changer for online shopping.
You can try Doppl now on Android or iOS. Just remember, it's not perfect. But it's a fun way to experiment with your style and see what looks good on you.
