Drone Detectors in NY & NJ: Senator Schumer's New Plan

New York, Jersey, USAMon Dec 16 2024
New York senator Chuck Schumer is pushing for special drone-detection technology to be used in both New York and New Jersey. He's urging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, to take action amid recent drone sightings that have captured people's attention and caused concern. Senator Schumer is also working on a Senate bill to enhance local law enforcement's ability to detect drones. These unmanned aerial vehicle sightings have been frequent in the last few days, sparking curiosity and worry. The FBI, closely monitoring the situation, has been looking into the reports. Both the FBI and DHS have stated that, as of now, they don't see these sightings as a threat to national security or public safety. Andy Kim, the senator from New Jersey, took a different approach. He joined local law enforcement to personally observe the mysterious drone activity. He found out that some of these sightings might not be drones at all, but aircraft. Although he acknowledges that some sightings could be actual drones, he believes many sightings can be explained by known flight paths. Kim, along with Schumer and other Democratic senators, have written a letter to federal agencies, including DHS and the Federal Aviation Administration, asking them to investigate these mysterious drone sightings. The goal is to uncover what's really happening and provide clear answers to the public.
