Eager Lions want veteran lineman to secure big wins
Detroit, Michigan, USAFri Apr 10 2026
Detroit’s defense already has a rising star in Aidan Hutchinson. The young edge rusher is twice a Pro Bowler and could soon claim Defensive Player of the Year honors. Yet despite his talent, the Lions keep looking to pad the roster. This time analysts are eyeing Tennessee’s Jeffery Simmons as the missing piece. A trade would cost Detroit their 2026 first-round pick plus a 2027 second-rounder, making it a steep price.
Simmons is paid $94 million through 2027, guaranteeing just two seasons in Detroit. His resume is impressive: four Pro Bowls, three All-Pro nods, and last year he set career highs with eleven sacks and seventeen tackles for loss. Yet the Titans seem unlikely to deal their best player while their own roster rebuilds under a new coach. The real question is whether Detroit believes a short-term win now outweighs long-term draft flexibility.
Injuries and age could soon slow Simmons, but his production remains elite. His presence would let Hutchinson draw fewer double teams, making both players more dangerous. Still, the Lions must balance this move against other needs like offensive line help and defensive backs. Missing out on next year’s draft class for a single season may not be the smartest gamble.
