The East Coast is in for a rough ride this weekend. Two winter storms are set to roll through, bringing snow, rain, and a wintry mix to various regions. But that's not all. An arctic blast is on its way, ready to sweep across the Eastern and Central U. S. as the new work week begins. First up, a quick-moving clipper system is making its way through the Midwest and Great Lakes, scattering snow showers along the way. This storm is expected to bring two rounds of snow to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. The first round started early Saturday morning, affecting areas from West Virginia and Virginia up to Pennsylvania and New England. The second round is set to arrive later in the morning. By noon, the I-95 corridor, stretching from Baltimore to Philadelphia to New York City, will be dealing with snow or mixed conditions. However, by mid-afternoon, things will start to clear up. Washington, D. C. , to Philadelphia will see clear skies, while New York City and Bridgeport, Connecticut, will transition to a light wintry mix before things dry up. Most of New England will see snow, except along the coast. Boston, in particular, is expected to see mostly rain, with the possibility of a wintry mix at times. As Saturday night rolls around, the first storm system will move out, leaving behind a few isolated showers in the Northeast. But don't think it's over yet. A second coastal storm is set to form off the Southeast coast early Sunday morning, making its way up the East Coast throughout the day.
By 8:00 a. m. on Sunday, parts of Georgia, possibly even down to the Florida Panhandle, will experience a light wintry mix or snow. Atlanta might see a few snow showers, while Macon, Georgia, is likely to encounter more concentrated wintry weather. Meanwhile, rain will be falling elsewhere along the Southeast coast, extending up into the Carolinas. As the coastal storm moves up the East Coast later Sunday morning into the afternoon, another round of snow is expected to develop along the Northeast coast, from Washington, D. C. , to New York City to Boston. However, it's still uncertain who will see snow with this coastal storm, as it depends on how close it is to the coast. There's a chance for more snow near the I-95 corridor, but it's becoming clearer that areas along the coast will see more snow than inland areas with this second storm system. Overall, both storm systems will bring minor snow accumulations along the I-95 corridor and parts of New England. Some higher snowfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches will be possible north and west of the I-95 corridor and parts of interior New England. But the real challenge is yet to come. Behind these two storm systems, a significant arctic blast is set to sweep across much of the Eastern and Central U. S. , making its presence felt as the new work week begins. This cold snap is expected to bring temperatures plummeting, making it crucial for residents to prepare and stay warm.
