You might think that virtual production is just a fancy term for filming with green screens. But EFD Studios, a company with locations spanning four countries, has big plans to change the game. They're building one of Europe's largest virtual sets right outside Madrid, Spain. This isn't your average setup either—we're talking about a whopping 21,500 square feet (yeah, you read that right) filled with cutting-edge LED screens and top-notch computer tech. Why go so big? Well, EFD Studios is already a powerhouse in the rental business, especially in Mexico where they've supplied gear for some major productions like Disney+'s "La Maquina" and Netflix's hit series "Pedro Páramo". This new virtual set will serve not just local projects but also massive international productions from big-name studios. The plan is to have this space ready by the second quarter of 2025, transforming a large chunk of their headquarters in Boadilla del Monte into a dedicated area for virtual production. While LED screens can be moved around, EFD Studios wants something permanent and top-notch—a "world-class LED volume" as they put it. But it's not just about the tech. EFD Studios is also committed to nurturing local talent in Spain and Mexico through training programs like Circa 24 and the EFD Studios Academy. These initiatives aim to blend theory and hands-on practice, helping both newcomers and experienced pros stay ahead in a rapidly changing industry.
