A decade ago, if asked who'd be next to a Republican president, you'd think of someone like Paul Ryan, not Musk. Trump's rise put pressure on traditional Republicans like Ryan. Now, Musk represents a similar worldview but with his own twist. He's outspoken, like Trump, and has strong views on immigration and culture. Despite controversies like his Twitter acquisition, he's popular among some. Trump has various sides: he's protective, sees endless possibilities, cares for workers, and focuses on the stock market. Musk counters the risk of Trump's populism becoming too defensive against change. Musk is all about the future: rockets, cars, robots, and tunnels. He's changed Republican views on Big Tech. His "DOGE" plan has renewed talk of cutting government spending. While his effectiveness is unknown, his optimism and drive are welcome.
