Elon Musk just scored a huge victory. The Delaware Supreme Court said he can keep his $55. 8 billion Tesla pay package from 2018. A lower court had earlier blocked it, but the higher court overturned that decision, saying it was too harsh.
This pay package was tied to Tesla hitting certain growth targets. It was a big deal because a Tesla shareholder sued, arguing the pay was too much. But the Supreme Court disagreed.
Meanwhile, Tesla shareholders have approved an even bigger pay package for Musk. This one could be worth up to $1 trillion if Tesla keeps growing.
Musk wasn't happy when the lower court blocked his pay. He even criticized Delaware, saying companies should leave the state. He moved Tesla and SpaceX to Texas in 2024.
Delaware is known for being business-friendly. Many big companies are incorporated there. But recently, some companies have been leaving. Andreessen Horowitz, a big investment firm, moved to Nevada because of legal concerns.
Delaware still has over 2. 1 million businesses incorporated there. That's a lot of money for the state. But some companies are looking at other states like Nevada.
Despite the criticism, Delaware officials say they aren't worried. They believe Delaware is still the best place for businesses. But other states are trying to attract companies away from Delaware.
