President Joe Biden recently called out Elon Musk, the world's richest man, for a surprising immigration twist. According to a report, Musk, who was born in South Africa, might have worked illegally in the US back in the day. Musk denies these claims, but the report suggests that he didn't enroll in classes at Stanford University as planned when he arrived on a student visa in 1995. Instead, he started working on his startup, Zip2. Investors in Musk's company were worried about his immigration status and gave him a deadline to get a work visa. Even Musk himself acknowledged in a 2005 email that he didn't have authorization to be in the US when he started Zip2. This email was part of a now-closed defamation lawsuit. Biden brought up this past while campaigning in Pittsburgh, saying, "He was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. " Musk replied on X, saying he was allowed to work in the US and accused Biden of lying. Musk has been a significant donor to Republican candidates, including Donald Trump, and has echoed Trump's harsh rhetoric against immigration. Trump has even promised Musk a role in his administration if he wins the upcoming election. This situation raises interesting questions about immigration policies and the actions of those who shape them. It's a good reminder that everyone's past can be complex, and sometimes, it comes back to the surface in unexpected ways.
