According to Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, Musk's role has been scaled back. Instead of heading a department, he'll be writing software to cut the federal budget. The original plan was for Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency. This name is a nod to his favorite cryptocurrency, DOGE. The task force was set to audit the entire federal government and suggest reforms. Trump even joked that Musk could be the "secretary of cost-cutting" because he's "not very busy. "However, the job has now changed. Musk will be working on software to save the government money.
