Ether ETFs Arrive: A New Mainstream Crypto Option
USAMon Oct 07 2024
Today marks a significant shift in the crypto world with the launch of spot ether ETFs. Ethereum's value is already on the rise, jumping 1. 3% to $3,520 before these funds hit the market. Back in January, the first bitcoin ETFs saw massive inflows of over $15. 1 billion.
Ethereum, known for its smart contracts and DeFi applications, will now be easier to buy and track through these ETFs. This could bring crypto investing more into the mainstream, opening doors for both institutional and everyday investors. Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, sees bitcoin as 'digital gold,' and he's no longer skeptical about its potential.
However, these new ether ETFs won't allow staking, which provides investors with additional revenue. This could dampen future demand, given the SEC's likely stance on complicating security classifications. There are also leveraged ether ETFs, but they come with their own set of risks.
While bitcoin and ethereum are more decentralized and have larger market caps, other cryptocurrencies like solana are trying to break through. VanEck recently filed for a spot solana ETF, but it's unclear how U. S. regulators will respond given the current regulatory environment. Unlike Europe's MiCA framework, U. S. approvals depend on individual circumstances and can take a lot of time.
In other news, cybersecurity startup Wiz has called off a potential $23 billion deal with Alphabet due to antitrust concerns. Instead, Wiz will pursue an IPO. This isn't the first setback for Alphabet in the M&A space. Additionally, Google has decided to scrap its plan to remove third-party cookies from Chrome, opting instead for an opt-out option for users. This move has sent ad-tech stocks higher.
Lastly, Tesla is seeing a boost as CEO Elon Musk talks up the potential of its humanoid robot business, Optimus. Musk predicts low production for internal use next year and hopes for high production by 2026. Today's Q2 results will shed light on Tesla's strategic plan and next-gen vehicles.
